Cold Weather Means Many Schools Must Close As They Run Out Of Heating Oil

After the Christmas holidays, hundreds of schools have not reopened as the cold weather has forced them to keep their doors shut. The fact that there is a shortage of heating oil or gas is the main reason behind the closure of most of these schools. Shockingly one school had to close when they realised that their heating oil supply had actually been stolen by thieves.

A lot of schools had to continue to use their heating oil over the Christmas holidays to keep their systems going. Because of this a lot of schools had much less oil when they returned for business and now emergency deliveries of heating oil are eagerly awaited. Some schools even had to close due to their oil supply pipes being frozen. It has been many years since the country has faced such prolonged and heavy snowfalls. It has been nearly three weeks since the snow started to fall heavily and it looks set to continue.

Schools have been targeted by thieves who are stealing heating oil especially because of the fact that they were all closed for the Christmas holidays. Thieves took 1000 litres of heating oil from the school in question, stated police sources. But other schools that have heating systems that kick in when the temperature drops to a certain level were left with dwindling supplies of heating oil. The freezing temperatures over the Christmas holidays meant that their heating systems were on a lot of the time and used up most of their oil supplies.

The cold weather is crippling some parts of the country with many people unable to get to work. And with hundreds of schools being forced to close, there are many parents out there who simply cannot get to work because they have no one to care for their children.

Getting the home heated up during winter can be very expensive. Fuel such as electricity and gas show no signs of coming down in price. Savvy people are changing over to oil as a home fuel though. When they do they always need their tanks filled with cheap heating oil to make sure they don’t run dry in the cold weather.
